Diamond Beach, Iceland
The Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara) by Jökulsárlón: where it is, 0.9 km by road from the lagoon café, the park's bridge rule, the wave warning, and the day trips that stop there.
The Diamond Beach is the black-sand shore beside Jökulsárlón, on the sea side of Route 1, where icebergs that have floated out of the lagoon wash back up on the sand. Vatnajökull National Park calls it Fellsfjara; it is 0.9 km by road from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Boat Tours and Cafe and open all year. Every day trip to the lagoon stops there: BusTravel Iceland’s Reykjavik: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach Tour is from $214 in current promotion (usually $237) a person (checked November 2026).
The calendar above is the day trip from Reykjavik to the lagoon and the beach, with 4,066 reviews (checked November 2026).

Where it is
Jökulsárlón drains into the sea through a short channel under Route 1, and the beach lies on both sides of that channel’s mouth. The park’s page puts Fellsfjara next to the lagoon, south of the road, with car parks at the beach and at the lagoon; from the café it is 0.9 km by road, over the bridge. There is a marked trail, B2, along Eystri-Fellsfjara (the eastern beach): about 1 km, around 40 minutes, easy.
On foot, the park’s rule is simple: do not walk over the bridge. It is single-lane and carries Route 1; the park says you can walk under it instead.
Safety on the beach
Visit South Iceland, the regional tourist board, gives three rules for the beach: never climb onto the ice, stay away from ice close to the sea, and always keep watch for waves, which can come in unexpectedly. Keep children close and stand well back from the waterline for photographs.

How long the tours stay
The day trips give the beach a short stop after the lagoon, so most of your time is at Jökulsárlón:
| Tour | At the lagoon | On the beach |
|---|---|---|
| BusTravel Iceland day trip ($214 in current promotion (usually $237)) | About 1.5 hours | A visit after the lagoon |

| Gateway to Iceland (GTIce) minibus ($230) | About 1 hour | About 30 minutes |
